The Pennsylvania Game Commission

This page is devoted to the grief that the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) is causing squirrel lovers as well as other animal lovers and pet owners (both those living in and those passing through Pennsylvania), the PGC's total lack of concern for the constitutional rights of American citizens who come anywhere near Pennsylvania and why we have to stop them from their incredible abuses of office and power.

This page is new and still being created. There is much more to come. In the meantime, for more information on the Pennsylvania Game Commission and what they're doing, go to the Squirrel Lovers For Freedom site. It's our sister site devoted solely to ending the tyranny of agencies like the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Another new site, not created by us, but devoted to exposing the Pennsylvania Game Commission for what it is has been recently been put up. It is aptly called the PA Game Commission Hall of Shame.

Our first exposure to the PGC was back in the spring of 2001, when PGC officer, Darren David, walked into an auction hall where a Pennsylvania couple were caring for two orphaned squirrels, one of which was a paraplegic, grabbed the squirrels and hauled them off without anything even approaching due process of law. In fact, he threatened the couple with citations when they asked about their right to due process.

Two years later, in the spring of 2003, the PGC was brought to our attention again with the case of Nutkin the squirrel.

Some of you may already know the story of Nutkin, but for those of you who don’t, well:

We and our Good Friends at squirrelloversforfreedom.com have been trying to battle the Pennsylvania Game Commission as they follow Nutkin, the now more than ten year old squirrel, to Superior Court.

Back in December 2002, Mr. & Mrs. Jean Gosselin of Orwigsburg, PA were cited for having a pet gray squirrel. Jean and Barb took Nutkin legally in South Carolina where they had lived previously for many years. Upon moving back to their home state, Pennsylvania, naturally they brought Nutkin along. After calling the PGC on a poacher who was illegally poaching deer on their property, the PGC officer who responded, William Dingman, saw their pet squirrel and cited them under a section of PA wildlife code that plainly states: "Nothing in this title shall prohibit the possession, at any time, of wild birds or wild animals lawfully taken outside of this Commonwealth which are tagged and marked in accordance with the laws of the state or nation where the wild birds or wild animals were taken."

Since then, Nutkin has been in hiding to keep the PGC from taking her and killing her under a law that says that the Gosselins' possession of her is perfectly legal, while the poaching incident the PGC was originally called about, and which very definitely is a violation of law, has been totally ignored.

UPDATE: November 5, 2004 - The Superior Court rules in favor of the Gosselins and Nutkin finally returns safely home. The story here.

But the story of Nutkin is only the tip of the iceberg when it come to PGC atrocities. One example is the story of Sandy Reynolds, a USDA licensed breeder of exotic animals, who had 13 harmless and innocent exotic animals with a total value of $35,000 confiscated by the PGC for absolutely no real reason. So far one of them, a small wallaby, has died at their hands. Get the whole story from Sandy's own website at www.sandysanimals.8m.com . If you have trouble with the link, try copying and pasting it into your browser window. Also, try using Internet Explorer if you're using a different browser and it doesn't work.

And, as time goes on, there will be many more incredible stories of what the PGC calls "law enforcement." So stay tuned.

Pennsylvania sports writer, Jim Slinsky, and one of the victims of the PGC have gone in together and put up a website that is keeping a running log of PGC atrocities. So, to keep up with the history and current events of the PGC, go to PA Game Commission HALL OF SHAME.
