Kenton is a small town 16 miles south of Union City in the northwest corner of Tennessee just over the Kentucky/Tennessee border. It is also known as Home Of The White Squirrels. Several years ago, Kenton and it's white squirrels were featured on the TV show "Prime Time Pets", hosted by Wil Shriner. Every year, on the 4th of July, Kenton has their White Squirrel Homecoming Celebration, complete with a parade.
Olney is a college town in southern Illinois that is known as Home Of The White Squirrels. They have several hundred white squirrels and are very well known for it. Every year in October, for three consecutive weekends, the town has a White Squirrel Count headed by Prof. John Stencel (professor of biology at Olney Central College) to determine trends in their white squirrel population.
In previous years, The Squirrel Lover’s Club has attended Kenton’s "White Squirrel Homecoming Celebration" in July and Olney’s "White Squirrel Count" in October. Both trips provided a good time for all who attended.
